With the Elegant Encounters, Hircus explores refinement through the vision of several personalities and artists who, through a material, an aesthetic or an artistic form, express their own sense of elegance.

For the launch of this very first episode, we find MARGAUX de FOUCHIER, at her home, in her universe and her inspirations. We asked her about her vision of elegance and how she perceives it in her daily life.

Hello Margaux, we are meeting you today because I believe we share a common attraction: the one that beauty and aesthetics, which you express through various talents such as literature, music, photography, and fashion...

All professions that embody a certain vision of art. Can you introduce us to your journey?

Hello, thank you for these words!

I am delighted to share with you my artistic and professional journey, as the two are ultimately linked. I have a very eclectic background that reflects the diversity of my desires and passions. After studying photography, I took my first musical steps with my album titled Instantanés (in reference to photography), in French, with Universal before imagining a second one, this time self-produced, in English, and then a last one, Disconova, with Un Plan Simple, where you can find disco hits reinterpreted in a bossa nova style, released a year ago.

After a break, as life led me to take an essential pause to enjoy and take care of my family, I developed my fashion eye at Vestiaire Collective for two and a half years, as Head of Social, before starting my own branding and digital communication consulting agency: Agence Malia. I am currently writing a book and expressing my favorite things as much as possible on my social networks, website, and newsletter, and developing various projects to embrace all possible forms of expression!

“Finding the right words is being able to make universal feelings and experiences that are very personal.
- Margaux de Fouchier.

What are your sources of inspiration on a daily basis, especially when it comes to literature ?

What inspires me on a daily basis is precisely what I can find poetic in it, and in the "ordinary"... A light, a play of colors, materials, volumes, a beautiful design, a font... and then a sentence, a word, that can take the imagination elsewhere, a little further. But obviously, all forms of art and delights are an inspiration !

In writing, I am mainly inspired by what I experience, feel, and also observe in others. In reading, I enjoy both historical narratives and very personal yet universal testimonies, novels, short stories, essays, from all eras...

There are authors whose words are always a marvel and who bring poetry back into everyday life or the imagination, or who put words better than anyone on what we live and feel, like Romain Gary, Christian Bobin, Thomas Vinau or Mona Chollet, Claire Marin, Anne Dufourmantelle and many others.

At Hircus, in addition to materials, we are looking for a notion that seems essential to us: that of elegance. For us, it goes beyond simple beauty by adding key elements such as balance. For us, it is about choosing the right color, a perfect cut, and the drape of the material.

In writing, where do you find your balance, your elegance ? Is it a concept that resonates with you when you create music or a text ?

It speaks to me, of course. Sorting things out, finding the right balance, the middle ground, harmony: it is a work in itself that I strive to do every day with the kind help of those around me.

I find them in alignment, evidence, authentic intimacy that can become universal...

Your writings aim to sublimate words. What emotion do you wish to convey through them ?

I spontaneously link photography and writing. For me, it is about giving a perspective on things.

Finding the right words allows us to make universal feelings and experiences that are very personal. I do not necessarily seek to convey a specific emotion, but rather to create a connection, so that we feel less alone, in writing, reading, and life.

To conclude, could you give us in a few words your own definition of elegance ?

It is a word that touches on an almost infinite spectrum of things. But in my definition, there is beauty, the kind that can heal: the beauty of a gesture, the curiosity we have for things. In elegance there is kindness, open-mindedness, listening, vulnerability, sharing, humility... it is harmony, balance, subtlety, grace.
